Since 1982, PCMag has tested and rated thousands of products to help you make better buying decisions. ![]() But with the price of the lesser card (the GTX 970) starting at around $350 and the GTX 750 Ti still selling for about $150, there was a pretty big gap between them, for those who wanted Nvidia's latest power-efficient architecture but performance that fell somewhere in the middle. ![]() With its next Maxwell cards, the chip maker aimed far up the stack, launching both the GeForce GTX 980 and the GeForce GTX 970-powerful cards, to be sure. It was a very reasonable pick for budget gaming at 1080p, especially in systems with space limitations and marginal-wattage power supplies. It was (and still remains) a very impressive card from a power-efficiency standpoint, with excellent pixel-pushing oomph for a card that could be powered solely by the PCI Express slot. Nearly a year ago, Nvidia launched its first video card based on its latest "Maxwell" architecture: the $150 GeForce GTX 750 Ti.
